PURPOSE: To obtain the subject ceramic molding freed from crack development with residual stress in its molding process suppressed to a minimum, by hydrostatic molding of a mixture of specific inorganic fibers and specific ceramic powder followed by sintering under normal pressures. CONSTITUTION: This ceramic molding is obtained by cold isotropic pressure (4ton/cm<2> ) molding of a mixture composed of (A) inorganic fibers (except graphite whisker) <=30 (pref. 5-15) in average aspect ratio and (B) ceramic powder having an average particle diameter <=2/3 times the average diameter of each of the inorganic fibers with the weight ratio A/B of 0.05-0.40. The component A is e.g. silicon carbide whisker, alumina whisker or potassium titanate whisker. The component B is e.g. silicon carbide, silicon nitride, alumina, silicon dioxide or zirconium dioxide. Specifically, this ceramic molding is obtained by preparing the mixture by suspending the components A and B in an alcohol followed by using a V-mixer or tumbling mixer and then subjecting the mixture to cold isotropic pressure molding and sintering the resultant molding at about 1,750 deg.C under normal pressures in an oxidative atmosphere. |
