PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester filament sewing yarn excellent both sewability and seam strength. SOLUTION: A polyester having an intrinsic viscosity [η] of 0.8-1.0 is melt- spun at a spinning rate of 2,000-3,000m/min, subjected to two step drawing treatments, further subjected to a thermal relaxation treatment of 2-10% at a temperature of 180-210 deg.C, and subsequently preliminarily twisted. A plurality of the pre-twisted polyester multi-filaments are doubled and subsequently subjected to a main twisting treatment having a twisting coefficient of 7,000-15,000 to obtain the polyester filament sewing yarn having a breaking strength of 5.5g/de, a breaking elongation of 20-38%, a toughness coefficient of >=5 and a main twisting coefficient of 7,000-15,000.
