PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the oxidation resistance of a graphite and obtain graphite- contg. monolithic refractories good in execution performance by depositing and fixing a boron compd. coated with an org. resin on the surface of graphite mother particles. SOLUTION: The surface of graphite particle as the source material is coated with a boron compd. such as boron oxide. This boron compd. is prepared by coating the surface with an org. resin such as a silicone resin. The obtd. graphite after the surface treatment is incorporated by bout 4 to 40wt.% as a skeleton component into the monolithic refractories. The particles of the source material graphite used are preferably to have about 1 to 50μm average particle size. As for the source material graphite, natural flake-type graphite, natural graphite soil or artificial graphite can be used. The packing bulk density of the surface- treated graphite is specified to >=0.8g/cc. As for the org. resin, a silicone resin or fluorocarbon resin for coating is used. By this method, the hardening at the execution time of the monolithic refractories can be prevented from delaying. |
