PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cleaning speed and prolong the use period of a dust collector by installing the dust collector bearing a photocatalyst on the surface in a dust collecting electrode in an electrically dust collecting type air cleaning apparatus. SOLUTION: When high voltage is applied between an ionizing electrode 1 and a dust collecting electrode 2, air is ionized by the ionizing electrode 1 and polluting components in air are electrically charged and the charged polluting components are collected to the dust collecting electrode 2. A sheet of dust collecting paper 3 is attached to the surface of the dust collecting electrode 2 and the polluting components adhere to the sheet of the dust collecting paper 3 bearing a photocatalyst layer 6 on the surface. The photocatalyst layer 6 is formed by applying a coating material containing fine particles of a photocatalyst to the sheet of dust collecting paper 3, excited by irradiating ultraviolet rays, and decomposes the polluting components adhering to the sheet of the dust collecting paper 3 into carbon dioxide and water molecules, and the carbon dioxide and water molecules produced by decomposition are parted by the sheet of dust collecting paper 3. An ultraviolet lamp 4 to radiate ultraviolet rays to the photocatalyst layer 6 is also installed. |
