The vehicle bumper comprises a cross member (11) with a superposed strip (12) connected to two vehicle structure beams (1,2). The strip is connected to each of the beams by a pivot (15) and at each of its ends (12a,12b) to the corresponding beam. An overrider (16) is interposed between each pivot and the strip. A shock absorber (3,4) is located between each pivot and corresponding beam. Pleats in the strip form deformation zones. The first pleat (20) is located in the central part of the strip. The second pleat (21) is located between the pivot with the left beam and the end (12a) of the strip connected to the left beam. The third pleat (22) is located between the pivot with the right beam and the end (12b) of the strip connected to the right beam. The bumper provides good resilience to frontal shocks at speeds less than 4 km/h and good shock absorbency for the vehicle structure at greater speeds. |
