The salt spreader has a hopper (1) with front (3) and rear (4) walls, two side walls (5, 6) and a base (7) . The rear wall (4) has an opening (11) near the base. The salt is moved by to the opening by a drawer (14, 15) mounted in the hopper which slides along the base in parallel with the side walls. The drawer slides backwards and forwards and is shaped like a ladder with two long sections (16) parallel to the side walls with a cross piece (17). This consists of a plate (18) which forms a scraper which pivots between the long sections between a vertical position for moving the salt along and a horizontal position when the drawer is moving backwards. The rotation of the scraper (18) is controlled by stops (28) on the long sections.
