Continuous adjustment of cone grinder opening

The cone grinder (1) comprises a grinding lining (6) fixed on a support (7) and an oscillating head (3) on a shaft (10) driven by a motor (14). The lining and the head form the grinding chamber (17). An adjusting collar (8) and a locking ring (23) are threaded onto the support. The locking ring is operated by fluid pressure in a deformable oil chamber (24) between the collar and the locking ring. The continuous adjustment of the grinding chamber opening is obtained as follows. When the power absorbed by the drive motor is less than a pre-determined load power and there is material in the grinding chamber the oil chamber is deflated to an intermediate pressure enabling rotation of the support. The support is then screwed through a pre-determined angle and the oil chamber reflated. During deflation of the oil chamber measured lubrication in the threads of the adjusting collar and the locking ring is made. The continuous adjustment procedure enables better control and use of power absorbed by the grinder.
