The multi-section shutter or cover seals off the interior of a freight container and is fully counterbalanced in any position. A correction system is provided for the counterbalancing mechanism so that the shutter or cover (2.1,2.2) is virtually completely counterbalanced in any position also when it is folded. Correction can be by springs whose spring constant is variable, together with a lever of variable length coupled to the shutter pivot point, typically via a hinge which shortens the lever when the shutter is turned in the folded state. A tubular hinge can be mounted at the shutter pivot point.
