A connecting rod/piston assembly for an engine or compressor cylinder, wherein the connecting rod comprises a big end portion (11) arranged at one end of the connecting rod body (10) and pivotably connected to the crankpin, and a small end portion (12) arranged at the other end of the body (10) for connection to the piston (1). The side surface (2) of the piston (1) has a spherical outline and is directly engageable with the cylinder surface (5), and the piston (1) is rigidly connected to the small end (12) of the connecting rod. The piston may be made resilient, e.g., by means of cylindrical (14) and radial (15) slots. Said assembly may be used in all kinds of motors and engines, in air compressors or in refrigerating machines.
