The invention relates to the transfer of files in a digital transmission system, especially in a DAB system according to standard ETS 300 401. According to the invention, a file is divided into segments that are transported in the service channel audio frames (16) or in the FIDC portion (23, 28) of the fast information channel. In audio frames, the segments can be located in the frame's audio data portion (16f) so that the program associated data portion (16h, 16j) in the frame includes supplementary information (29, 30, 31, 32) describing a segment. In the FIDC portion, a segment (36) and the supplementary information (33, 34, 35, 37) describing it are used to form a data group (38), which is advantageously distributed among information groups (23) of the FIG 5/3 type.
