The seal (9,10) comprises a radially inward encircling element (13) and a radially outwards facing element (14) which extends at right angles from a base (11). They bear in elastic pre-tension with elements (19) on the outside wall of the inner pipe (2) at the junction (6) and on the inner wall of the outer pipe (3). The element at least deforms sufficiently elastically as to compensate for any inside diameter tolerance of the outer pipe. Preferably the seal has two outside elements (15) differing in outside diameter when out of load.
