<p>An electric furnace comprising a heating element formed of lanthanum chromite based hollow ceramics and opened at both ends thereof and having such terminal portions that a cross-sectional area of the ceramics at surfaces of both ends thereof perpendicular to a lengthwise direction are made larger than that of the ceramics at a surface of a central portion thereof perpendicular to the lengthwise direction and having electrodes for high temperature and metallic lead wires mounted to the terminal portions to make an intermediate portion between the terminal portions a heating portion, a heat insulator fitted over the heating element, and a hollow ceramics body mounted in a hollow portion of the heating element with a hollow portion thereof serving as an effective heating chamber. The electric furnace is a small-sized one which is stably usable even at 1400 °C or higher, and is excellent in durability, profitability and handling property.</p> |
