The invention concerns a pivot joint with a gas pressure spring, the pivot joint comprising a can-shaped cylindrical base body (1) which can be supported relative to a fixed bearing and the casing of which is provided with the approximately semicircular cylinder (2) of a gas pressure spring. The base body (1) is further provided with a recess, forming an approximately semicircular guide device (6), and a piston (3.1) which is displaceably mounted in the cylinder (2) and driven by a piston rod (3). The piston rod (3), which is adapted to the curvature of the cylinder (2) and extends with its free end in the recess in the guide device (6), comprises at the free end a sliding part (10) which is movably guided in the guide device (6) and has a second leg (12) such that both legs (9, 12) form an angle of which the apex is formed by the mid-point of the circle formed by the cylinder (2) and guide device (6).
