<p>A substrate for a liquid crystal display in which a black matrix (60) is provided over an alignment film (50). The alignment film (50) is formed on a TFT (30) and on a transparent pixel electrode (20). The black matrix is made of a carbon-free black resin material. The black matrix (60) is formed after the alignment film (50) has been finished. Therefore, the alignment film seldom suffers defects that result from the thickness of the black matrix. Even when an alignment defect occurs, there arises no problem since the defect is concealed by the black matrix (60).</p> |
