Oxidation hair dyes

An oxidation dye comprising precursors in a carrier, contains the following as oxidation dye precursors: (1) a primary aromatic amine(s) with a second amino or hydroxyl group in the para-position, or an aminopyrimidine, as a developer; and (2) a 3-alkyl-2-aminophenol(s) of formula (I), where R<1> = 1-4C alkyl; and R<2> = H, 1-4C alkyl or 2-4C hydroxyalkyl. Preferably component (1) is p-phenylene diamine, p-toluylene diamine p-aminophenol or 2,5-diaminophenyl ethanol, or mixtures thereof with standard developers. Component (2) is 3-methyl-2-aminophenol. The dye contains 0.05-30 mmoles (1) and 0.05-30 mmoles (2) per 100 g dye.
