The module has a main frame(2) that is of a U shape and has a LDC display panel(81) together with a temperature measuring unit(10) and a keyboard(7). The temperature measuring unit has a sensor to monitor the temperature of the LCD field. The temperature measurement allows conditions to be adjusted to maintain constant contrast irrespective of ambient conditions. The instrument module has an optical distance measuring stage(1) of a type that outputs a light beam that is reflected off a surface with the phase differnce measured.
