A method of recovering the elastomeric casing from core material (55) of a multilayer elongate member (49) comprising feeding the member (49) through an array of high pressure liquid jets (57) directed at the external surface of the member (49), and effecting relative movement between the jets (57) and the member (49) so that the complete periphery of the member (49) is subjected to the high pressure jets (57) to thereby remove the casing in a particulate from the core material (55) of the member (49).
