The blind is characterised by the protective inclusion of a transparent substrate whose adhesive tension exceeds the surface tension with embedded metal above its melting point. Near the melting point, the surface tension predominates. A spontaneous change of the transmission properties occurs by surface mesh formation. The substrate has semiconducting properties and is suitably doped. The active substrate is a component of an electronic Schottky process as well as of an electronic pn- or np-process. It is made of germanium, zinc selenide, silicon glass containing zirconium dioxide, and the metal included may be rubidium, which melts at 40 deg. C., or caesium. The blind has an accompanying heater. The absorbtion properties of the substrate influence the transition to transparency.
