Movement detection within a surveillance area

The detection method for movement made by an intruder within a monitored region, involves interpreting a video image obtained using a matrix of detector cells (DZx) over an interval from time x to time y. The detector matrix is typically 6 by 6. Each cell in the matrix is characterised by a brightness value (H), and a sequence of the luminance values is obtained over the period. The values are used to form the correlation coefficient, and this is compared with a predetermined threshold value. An alarm signal is generated when the value is below the reference.
