摘要 Lubricating oil compositions comprise a major proportion of a lubricating oil and a minor proportion of amorphous oil-soluble polypropylene of molecular weight between 10,000 and 30,000. The lubricating oil may be any conventional mineral oil, e.g. paraffinic, naphthenic, or asphaltic based oils, hydrogenated oils, white oils or shale oil, or a synthetic oil such as polymerized olefins, oils obtained by the hydrogenation of coal or carbon oxides, esters of dibasic acids, e.g. di-(2-ethyl hexyl) sebacate, glycol esters, e.g. the C13 oxo acid ester of tetraethylene glycol, complex esters, e.g. sebacic acid/tetraethylene glycol/2-ethyl hexanoic acid complex ester or any blend of mineral oils with one another or with animal, vegetable or fish oils or their hydrogenated or voltolized products. The polypropylene is prepared by polymerizing propylene in the presence of a catalyst obtained by mixing a reducing metal compound with a reducible metal compound (see Group IV (a)) and separating the oilsoluble polypropylene formed from the oilinsoluble propylene also formed. Optional ingredients mentioned are dyes, pour depressants, sulphurized fatty oils, organo-metallic compounds, metal or other soaps, sludge dispersers, anti-oxidants, thickeners, V.I. improvers, oiliness agents, resins, rubber, voltolized waxes, colloidal solids, e.g. graphite or zinc oxide, and solvents and assisting agents, e.g. esters, ketones, alcohols, aldehydes, and halogenated or nitrated compounds. In the example, oil-soluble polypropylene is dissolved in a refined mineral lubricating oil.
