Herbicides derived from 2-cyano-1,3-diones have the formula: in which R, R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> and R<5> are as defined in the description. The compounds are intended for use against dicotyledonous and monocotyledonous weeds by pre- and/or post emergence application.
