Transmission device for a motor vehicle including a primary shaft (7) coaxial with the shaft (5) of the engine (2), a secondary shaft (28) parallel to the primary shaft (7), and a set of gears (26, 27, 31) progressively stepping-down the movement of the primary shaft (7) onto the secondary shaft (28) and onto a differential (11), characterised in that the primary shaft (7) is coupled to the shaft (5) of the engine (2), and in that the set of gears (26, 27, 31) consists of a first gear (26) fixed to the primary shaft (7), of a second gear (27) driven by the first gear (26) and fixed to the secondary shaft (28), and of a third gear (31) fixed to the secondary shaft (28) and meshing with the crown wheel (ring gear) (32) of the differential (11).
