PURPOSE:To increase selectivity when ethylene oxide is manufactured by allowing silver, molybdenum and alkali metal to be carried on a porous carrier to form a catalyst for preparing ethylene oxide. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for manufacturing ethylene oxide is formed by allowing, preferably 5 to 25% by weight, more preferably 5 to 18% by weight of silver, preferably 5 to 500ppm of molybdenum and preferably 10 to 10,000ppm, more preferably 50 to 5,000ppm of alkali metal to be carried on a porous carrier. The preferable porous carrier is one made from alumina, silicon carbide or titania with a surface area of 0.6 to 10m<2>/g. The reaction of converting ethylene to ethylene oxide using the obtained catalyst is performed, for instance, at the pressure level of 1 to 35kg/cm<2> under temperatures ranging from 80 to 300 deg.C. |
