PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cycle life characteristic by providing a prescribed relation between the ratio Y of the absolute sulfuric acid theoretical capacity/ negative electrode active material theoretical capacity per battery cell and the ratio X of the negative electrode active material weight/positive electrode active material weight after perfect charge. SOLUTION: In a lead acid battery having a negative electrode active material quantity/positive electrode active material quantity ratio of 0.75, the utilization ratio of negative electrode active material is increased when the ratio Y of the electrolyte theoretical capacity/negative electrode active material theoretical capacity is 0.4 or more. In a lead-acid battery having a negative electrode active material quantity/positive electrode active material quantity of 0.55, the utilization ratio of negative electrode active material is increased when the ratio Y of the electrolyte theoretical capacity/negative electrode active material theoretical capacity is 0.64 or more. Thus, Y per battery cell is set so as to be Y=-0.10X+1.27 or less and Y=-0.65X+0.78 or more to the ratio X after perfect charge. Thus, the roughing of particles accompanying charge and discharge is eliminated, and the reduction in cycle life characteristic can be prevented. |
