PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously culture plant cells in a stationary state under an increased production of secondary metabolic products by determining a phosphoric acid concentration that gives a desired specific growth rate and cell concentration using a relational expression between a growth rate of plant cells and a phosphoric acid concentration in a medium and using a medium having the determined phosphoric acid concentration. SOLUTION: In a method for culturing plant cells in a liquid medium, a phosphoric acid concentration that gives a desired specific growth rate and cell concentration is determined using the equation (X is a cell concentration; S is a phosphoric acid concentration;μm is the maximum specific growth rate; KM is a saturation constant) obtained from the relation between a growth rate of the plant cells and the phosphoric acid concentration in a medium. Plant cells are cultured using a medium having the determined phosphoric acid concentration. In the culturing, the phosphoric acid works as a restricted substrate, and thus, while breading plant cells for producing seedlings, plant bodies such as seedlings and bulbs can be produced in a large scale. The processes enable the continuous culturing of plant cells in a stationary state under the production cost reduction and the stable supply of seedlings, and the improvement of the production efficiency of secondary metabolic products such as anthocyanin.
