NEW MATERIAL:(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-cyclohexene carboxylic acids expressed by formula I (R is H or lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:4-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-3-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid. USE:Useful as a precursor of 4'-hydroxybiphenylcarboxylic acids or (4- hydroxyphenyl)-cyclohexane carboxylic acids useful as a heat resistant resin monomer, monomer for liquid crystal, etc. PREPARATION:Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-cyclohexane carboxylic acids expressed by formula II is heat-decomposed without using dehydrogenating catalyst and hydrogen acceptor, preferably reacted in the presence of a basic or acid catalyst, e.g., sodium hydroxide at 100-400 deg.C, preferably 150-250 deg.C to provide the compound expressed by formula I. |
