摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the recognition rate of magnetic ink characters by stably detecting the magnetic ink characters without adjusting the amplification factor of an amplifier circuit by providing a moving device, an amplitude detection circuit and a moving speed deciding device. SOLUTION: A medium 21, on which magnetic ink characters 22 are printed, and a magnetic signal detecting means 24 are relatively moved by a moving means 24. While moving relatively to the medium 21, the magnetic signal detecting means 24 converts a magnetic signal detected from the magnetic ink characters 22 to an electric signal 25 and sends it to an amplitude detecting means 28. The detecting means 28 detects the amplitude, namely, peak value of the electric signal 25 and sends that amplitude information 29 to a moving speed deciding means 30. The deciding means 30 decides new moving speed 31 from the information 29 such as the amplitude and current moving speed. That moving speed 31 is sent to the moving means 23 and according to the decided moving speed 31, the moving means 23 relatively moves the medium 21, on which the characters 22 are printed, and the detecting means 24.
