NB3AL SUPERCONDUCTING WIRE AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Nb3 Al superconducting wire excellent in the critical current density characteristic. SOLUTION: An Nb/Al composite structure is formed so that Al phase is dispersed in fiber form in an Nb matrix. For this purpose, a pure Nb or Nb- based alloy sheet for industrial use containing no more than 15 crystal particles across the plate thickness is used to shape an Nb/Al laminate composite which constitutes a filament, and a hydrostatic pressure extrusion is adopted when a mono-filament wire is to be formed after shaping of the Nb/Al laminate composite.
