PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a system realizing multi-function configuration by providing a digital communication converter connecting to a communication means and operated in cooperation with a network to simplify the hardware and software structure of the communication converter. SOLUTION: A communication converter 160 has a transmission/reception means 186 exchanging information with a peripheral transmission control means 185 and a transmission/reception means 187 on an Ethernet transmission medium 4. The transmission reception means 186 writes a down-link frame and reads an up-link frame in a space 176 of a random access memory 173 when a frame buffer is found out. The transmission reception means 187 conducts write/read of a data frame to/from the space 176 and the peripheral transmission control means 185 writes information to the space. The transmission/reception means 187 writes an address of an additional information field 14 to an operating memory 175 upon the receipt of a data frame 12 through a cable 4 after startup.
