PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal detector which is stable in sensitivity characteristics without fluctuating a distance between a sensing face and a sensor part. SOLUTION: A metal detector including a cylindrical body 1 with one of open ends 11 sealed by a lid being a sensing face 47, a sensor part 1 provided at one of open ends 11 in a cylinder 12 of the body 1 with a coil 22 wound around a ferrite core 21 and a printed board 3 electrically connected to the coil 22 for detecting existence of metal or a distance with the sensing face 47 as a reference via a change in impedance of the sensor part 2 which is high-frequency-driven to generate an electromagnetic field comprises a bottomed- cylindrical housing 4 receiving the sensor part 2 with one end face 21a of the ferrite core 21 in contact with a bottom face 41 orthogonal to a body shaft, in which the housing 4 is fixed to one of open ends 11 of the cylinder 12 of the body 1.
