<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contact condition between a magnetic head and a tape employing a low cost constitution of the magnetic recording and reproducing drum used in a helical scan system. SOLUTION: In the rotating drum of an upper drum rotating system, a recessed part 10c is provided only to the immediately upper section of a magnetic head 4c on an upper drum 2. Thus, the thickness of the air layer in the vicinity of the head 4c is reduced on a magnetic tape 5 while the drum is rotated as shown in A and the contact condition between the head 4c and the tape 5 is improved. For the portion, in which the head does not exist, an air layer having an adequate thickness is maintained as shown in B. Therefore, a stable running condition of the tape 5 is maintained and no damage is made to the tape 5.</p> |
