The method involves removing the original tap valve and fitting a coupling (30) with a valve (36) onto the valve housing (20). A stopper (50) is then inserted through the coupling and fitted into the hole in the pipe. Once the stopper is in place the tap housing can be removed, retaining the clamp (14) which fastened it to the pipe (10), and a bush fitted in its place. Another tool is inserted into the stopper to retract it into the bush, which is then capped.
