Process for hydrophobising glass surfaces, silica particles and other minerals, by silanisation following decontamination, employs a catalyst such as iron perchloride for producing oxygen radicals from hydrogen peroxide during the decontamination step. Preferably, silanisation is carried out by immersion in a solution of not more than 10<-2> mol/l. alkyl trichlorosilane in a conventional solvent such as a light alkane. |
