The covering material consists of a layer (1) of a suitable film material, such as plastics, which has pre-cut horizontal lines for books of different sizes. The sheet material can have an adhesive coating over all or part of its surface, e.g. the spine (5) and edges (3), and it can be made with prefolded vertical lines (4).
