This invention concerns a catalytically active coating applied to a base body, in particular a reaction tube, and a method of applying this catalytically active coating. According to the invention, the coating consists of a laminated composite which at least comprises a base body, an adhesion promoter and a catalytically active cover layer. An adhesion promoter, preferably a metallic adhesion promoter, is applied to a base body, preferably a metal base body, and a catalyst-containing suspension is applied to this adhesion promoter. Advantageously, the composition of the adhesion promoter is at least substantially metallic. Preferably, the adhesion promoter substantially comprises FeCrAl, NiAl and/or NiCrAlY. Coatings in which the catalytically active cover layer contains oxide ceramic catalyst material are suitable. Advantageously, the catalytically active cover layer can comprise metallic oxide hydroxide and/or compounds containing metallic oxide hydroxides and/or metallic oxides and/or compounds which contain metallic oxides and tend to from hydroxides. The catalytically active coating can be applied by sponging, painting, centrifuging, spraying and/or dipping. In particular, a coating in which the suspension is stabilized by a binder or a binder system has proven acceptable. Binders or binder systems which contain metallic oxide hydroxide phosphates and/or metallic salts and/or eutectic compounds which melt at the catalyst operating temperature are suitable. The suspension can further be stabilized by the addition of acids and/or bases in a neutral pH range. |
