PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for quantization parameter calculation and inter/intra-mode and field/frame DCT mode decision by designing a circuit corresponding to purposes for a video signal encoding system. SOLUTION: At the controller, all the mathmatical calculations related to the decision of three types of inter/intra-mode, field/frame mode and quantization parameter are performed at an arithmetic unit 130 while using a state machine 120 and a memory and I/O unit 150. Initial constant values for the mathmatical calculation are predetermined by a system design and inputted through an L90 to the memory and I/O unit 150 before the controller performs the mathmatical calculation. Corresponding to the input signal, a control unit 110 supplies a control signal to the state machine 120. The state machine 120 generates a series of control sequences and supplies them to the arithmetic unit 130 and the memory and I/O unit 150. |
