The invention concerns a process for biologically treating organic waste and a device for carrying out this process. In order to treat the material effectively, a circulating agitator is disposed in a horizontally oriented reactor (2) and rotates the material whilst simultaneously moving it forwards. The material (13) is rinsed by spray arms (18) whilst simultaneously being intensively aerated in order to bring about an aerobic biological decomposition process.
