The valve has a seating face (16) crowned with a radius (r) roughly corresponding to the diameter of its face (14). With a valve face diameter lying between 25 and 50 mm, preferably 35 mm, the radius will be about 30 mm. The valve's face on its side (26) facing the combustion chamber is thickened by crowning, at least partially. In cross-section the thickening is in parabola form. At least the crowned valve is manufactured in a quick point grinding process.
