The method involves a network (11) operator who charges different tariffs for the type, time of day, and/or duration of use. The terminal is connectable manually or automatically to an opposite station over the network by a switch via a selector (2). A microcomputer (1) controls the connection and operational use. The circuit comprises several memories (4,6,8,12) for relevant tariff, zonal, location, telephone number etc. data. The subscriber is continuously informed over the charges of the intended telephone connection prior to dialling and during a call, or an existing data connection on a display (12).
