The present invention relates to a rescue device (10) for use in traffic accidents and also in accidents at sea that involve man overboard situations. The rescue device (10) includes an elongated first sheet member (12) and two second sheet members (12'), each of which is disposed on a respective side of the first sheet member (12). The second sheet members (12') are angled in relation to the first sheet member (12) so as to define an angle in relation to the first sheet member (12), so as to define an angle alpha therebetween. The rescue device (10) also includes a plurality of carrying means (16) disposed on the second sheet members (12') and enabling the device (10) to be carried. The sheet structure (12, 12') used includes a stable first sheet (20), a resilient and thermally insulating second sheet (22) that has closed pores and is disposed adjacent the first sheet, and a smooth, third sheet (24) and is disposed adjacent the second sheet (22) and centrally opposite the first sheet (20).
