PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To diagnose the operation of a printer by referring to the dialogue screen transmitted from the printer to a hot line (remote diagnostic facility). SOLUTION: A diagnostic system 170 is composed of a printer 2 and a remote diagnostic facility 186 and performs a diagnostic operation for the printer 2 by referring to the electronic data corresponding to one or more dialogue screens stored in the memory of the printer 2. Actually, a remote communication line 172 is formed between the facsimile transmitter 174 of the printer 2 and the facsimile receiver 188 of the remote diagnostic facility 186, the electronic data corresponding to one or more dialogue screens is designated and the data is transmitted by the communication link. When an event occurs, the electronic data corresponding to one or more dialogue screens is transmitted from a facsimile transmitter 174 to a facsimile receiver 188, a print is generated by the transmitted electronic data in the rate diagnostic facility 186 and the diagnostic operation is performed by the print. |
