PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of cracks in a ceramic board. SOLUTION: The ceramic heater 1 has a ceramic board 2, in which a heat emission part and lead 4 are embedded while being connected with each other. In the specified scope of the surface of the lead 4, a protection layer 6 is furnished containing 10-80vol.% ceramic fibers 6a having lengths between 10-100μm. In manufacturing this ceramic heater 1, a ceramic fiber-containing slurry is prepared chiefly from a ceramic powder of a composition equal or similar to board sheets and ceramic fibers of the same composition or any other and is applied to a specified range of the surface of the lead 4 followed by drying, and the resultant is pinched between the board sheets followed by a baking process. A crack C initiatted in the board 2 comes into contact with the ceramic fibers 6a in the protection layer 6 to bend, and will never propagate straightly. The ceramic fibers 6a in the protection layer 6 fill the role of a wedge to the crack C willing to propagate. |
