The electric connector is provided to connect with and disconnect from an electric counter-connector (2). It has a housing (18) and a pivotal lever (50) mounted on the housing (18). The pivotal lever (50) causes the connection or disconnection of the connector. The lever (50) has a main body (56) and a retractable handle (58). The latter is arranged on the main body such that it can be pulled out and pushed back in. Guide devices are provided on the housing (18) and the handle (58). The guides allow movement of the handle (58) into a pushed back position when it is in a pulled out position and when the pivotal lever (50) is in a position at the start or end of its pivotal movement.
