The scooter (1) has at least two wheels (6,10), one of the wheels is driven by a treadle drive lever (36) which has two arms (44,42) and acts as the standing board (46). The driver stands on the lever and by alternating the application of his weight first on one arm then on the other moves the arms down in a vertical plane in succession. The arms are linked to the driven wheel in such a way that the downward movement of one arm acts to rotate the wheel. The downward movement of the other arm acts to raise the first arm again. Springs, gears and a freewheel can be incorporated.
