The press has a feed unit set so that material feed during a phase in which two or more additional working stages take place is zero. The duration of the phase in which additional working stages take place is greater than the duration of other phases. The press has a stamping tool and one additional working stage is the its activation or deactivation. An additional stage may be the rotation around its own axis of a upper tool (9) attached on a ram (8) and an opposite acting lower tool (7) around the axis of the ram or of a workpiece stack (11) in the packing tool.
