Piston ring seal

The piston ring seal for an internal combustion engine cylinder comprises two rings (5, 6) in a groove in the piston. One of these (5) is of a width less than that of the other (6) There is a flat strip (10), or a sector of one, at the inner circumferential surface of the narrower ring, of the same height as it and gripping over a slot in it. The narrow ring and the flat strip or sector of it combine to grip the other ring. The ring further from the combustion chamber (2) is the narrower one. The flat strip may be a curved leaf spring.
