The mounting for a needle bar (1) is implemented by supporting the bar which effects the needle lift movement, in an upper (2) and a lower bush (3). These in turn are supported in a bush holder (6) which has attached an air supply (8) preferably directed at right angles to the bar and they are free of lubricants in the form of solids, pastes or fluids. Preferably one or more air feeds are placed in the holder, preferably at a tangent to the upper and the lower bush on both of which are contra-rotating spiral grooves.
