Finish grinding machine for bearing surfaces of shafts

The finish grinding machine (1) may produce a fine finish on a cylindrical workpiece, (W) e.g. a shaft. There are three shoes (5) which engage the surface of the shaft and are spaced one hundred and twenty degrees apart. They press a band (12) faced with grinding material against the surface of the shaft and have cylindrically curved surfaces which fit the cylindrical bearing surface (9) of the shaft. The shoes are mounted on shafts (10) running parallel to the workpiece, so that they can swivel to keep the grinding surfaces in good contact with the surface of the shaft. The shoes are mounted on a framework (4) with swivelling arms which enable the shoes to be applied to the surface of the shaft or removed. There are sprays (13) which are mounted on swivelling members (11) which spray lubricating fluid onto the belt.
