The pipe is held in a machining die, by locating on an anvil (26) that holds it in place via spring elements (27) or elastic plastic elements creating a force on the inside of the pipe. The anvil may also flexibly located in the holder, in advance direction of the cutting tool (20,21), and may be held in a constant position by the guide (28). Alternatively, the anvil may be guided via a control member (32), located in the counter holder (13), and dependant upon the cutting depth of the cutting tool. The setting member may be a cam disc rotating in the counter holder. The anvil may be conical.
