Transient changes in or interruptions of the sensor output signal (u(t)) are measured and evaluated for error in order to monitor a rotational-speed sensor (G, A) which consists of a measuring sensor (G) in the form of a toothed disk or the like which rotates with the wheel and of a stationary transducer (A). If this error arises within a predetermined number (K) of successive wheel turns, then an "error" is detected.
